Handspun and handwoven! The signature fabric-Khadi!  A fabric which was profoundly associated with the country’s freedom struggle and politics owes its revival to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. The spinning wheel, during the freedom struggle, was a potential tool which raised self-reliant and independent villages. Today Khadi has set its foot in global scenario and created vibrancy by changing its image from boring to dapper.

To pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi's contribution to this revolutionary movement, we at Vishal Bharti Public School had taken up an initiative to observe "Khadi Week" from 3rd October to 7th October 2016. To commemorate the occasion the students of class V presented an astounding skit in the special assembly on 3rd October, highlighting the importance of Khadi in the 21st century. On 4th October students of class IX unveiled their creativity in "poster making completion" and class X designed decorous book marks to accentuate the uses and need of the fabric.  Furthermore, class VIII students visited Khadi Gram Udyog at Connaught Place, Delhi on the very same day to witness the vivid hues of Khadi products. The endeavour was to unfurl the matchless handloom creation to the exuberant children. The spirit of khadi embodies a world view that is of the past – and of the future. On 5th October, the children from class III to class v brought off an outstanding skit, highlighting Gandhiji's efforts for the promotion of Khadi. They staged and enacted how Khadi is not a mere piece of cloth but a way of life.  The children were applauded for their exceptional theatrical skills. The school stretched a step further for promoting the use of Khadi by encouraging students of class VI to brainstorm their minds in composing slogans. The students were wholeheartedly involved and displayed innovative slogans. Last but not the least, on 7th October, the children of class VII to VIII walked the ramp with great panache and verve and rolled out the latest khadi Indo-Western Silhouettes, reflecting the Indian charm with modern flavour.  It was an exclusive showcasing event where the vivacious children paraded the best handloom ensembles.

The week concluded on a glorious closure with great grandeur; quoting our Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi –"let us buy at least one product of Khadi fabric and help light a lamp of Diwali in the homes of the poor".
